BOGGO ROAD to BRISBANE BOTANIC GARDENS, Mt. Cootha, QLD.

This ride is probably more suited to locals who are looking to get out on a weekend for a short recreational ride. However, this doesn't prevent people living in the outer suburbs of Brisbane from hopping on a train with their bike. If this be the case, take the train to Park Road at Dutton Park. The old and infamous Boggo Road jail is a short distance from the station and is the ideal start point to commence the ride.

The Redlands is full of riding routes of varying length and due to the network of paths it is one of the best riding destinations for recreational riders. Even if the entire route is not suitable for families, selected portions  are and it is simply a matter of choosing which portion is suitable. Another added feature is it's close proximity to forests, parks and seaside.

A selection of what there is to be seen on this ride. Pick a nice fine day and you won't regret it.

This is one of the great recreational rides in Brisbane. It is over 60 km. so pick a nice day, preferably on a weekend, include a couple of friends and take your time and enjoy. I can't tell you how long the ride will take because that all depends on how fast you ride and how many stops you make but make sure you leave sufficient time and don't run out of light.

This ride which has a portion of dirt trails through a forest combined with riding alongside the Brisbane River makes this an attractive ride for the recreational rider who is moderately fit.. There are a number of hills one of which is quite steep.

CLEVELAND LOOP via Thornlands, Capalaba, Birkdale & Wellington Point, Qld

For an embedded "Ride with GPS" map please open http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6951180

There are a number of routes that can be taken to ride to Wellington Point and a whole lot shorter than this but the purpose of the exercise is to bring you a ride which gives you variation and to me that is the essence of recreational cycling. At 35 kms, it puts it into the range of an average cyclist on a weekend ride looking for an enjoyable ride that is not too stressing.

CLEVELAND STATION RETURN via Ormiston, Thornlands, Cleveland Point, Qld.

This is a ride that can either be relaxing or used as a training ride depending on your mood. If you don't live locally, you have the option of taking a train or your vehicle.

After the ride you can settle in and have an ale at Hog's Breath or one of the other bar/restaurants dotted along the harbour to complete your afternoon of relaxation and if you happen to ride in the morning and consider it too early to indulge in a beer, then there are as many coffee outlets in the same area. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

MURRARIE to NORMAN PARK via ASCOT, QLD 31 km

For an embedded map of this ride, please open this link http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7819713

The Gateway Bridge, Brisbane, Qld.
Le Bon Choix

It's been awhile since we have stopped off at Le Bon Choix for coffee and cake so we scheduled a detour on our ride from Murrarie to Norman Park. This is about as authentic as a "french" cafe can get as even the staff have french accents. The coffee is A1 and the pastries and cakes are simply delicious. I'll be back again soon.

Riding over the Gateway requires a little grunt but it is simply a matter of choosing a low gear and taking your time. A 31 km ride that is well worth the effort.
